1980s was the time of telephones . from a rarity it entered to the corner of
many of our houses . news moved faster. Tears
originated early , since the knowledge
of death and disasters were immediate .
but the main advantage was that you can directly hear your beloved’s
voices . but there were complaints also
. oh my dear . what happened to your voice. Are you suffering from severe cold . fetch a doctor immediately . this was a time when we believed that this imitation was real . we had studied the principles of a telephone
. we speak through a mouth piece . there is a moving diaphragm kept in front of
a carbon packed cavity , the vibration
making fluctuations in the resistance of this carbon cavity and thus
controlling the flow of current through the connected wire . at the other end where the ear piece is kept
a reversal of this process takes place and we hear a similar sound . the problem is that it is only a similar
sound , not the original . what we hear
is the sound of the vibration , near our
ear piece . even after knowing this
scientific truth, we believed that what
we hear is the voice of the other person
standing at a remote corner with his mouth dipped in the mouth piece
The case of sound recorder was similar . when in 1877,
Thomas Edison invented this marvelous innovation , there were doubts in the minds of skeptics and many even
believed that some vocal experts were kept somewhere in the room who can
imitate the voice of the speaker without any doubt . they indulged in many a type of testing
procedures and once a man who believed himself that his voice is so perfect
that no one can imitate his recital of bible,
was called for to test the instrument
and after the test the man declared that what he heard from the
instrument was his own voice. This time the machine cheated a living human being .
In this machine age , a machine can cheat living human
beings in many ways
