FLOWERS OF WAR

There were no flowers at the Kurukshethra field. Warmongers on both side, were fighting to reinstate the justice of the victor. And the first time in history we knew that, a peace loving man can be made cruel, simply by the aid of philosophy. Philosophy, converted, pain into something to be preached and to be done during the course of the day. But the cries of the mothers were reverberating through the walls of the universe.

Today philosophy is out of our gate. now It is not required to conceal the pain of your brother. Our weapons are remote, and can devastate him, into nothingness, even without his blood being shattered on our clean apparels. I can lead a simple family life even after my gun uttered war cries.

Zoltan Fabri’s Balint Fabian committed suicide because of many reasons. In an open fight he was facing his opponent , whose heart was pierced by his bayonet, and the gush of blood smeared all of his cloths with pain, and the sad face of that child, haunted him throughout his life. He was asking the god for a reason to continue. But he was silent. But today our soldiers have no such nightmares. Modern technology had freed him from many a mental agonies.

Land wars were then a thrill to the soldiers, because of the flowers – girls – dispersed on the occupied land. His justice was to run in search of her and knowing that his man will be exterminated and she will be devastated by the invading army, she tries to escape, but to where.

I do not consider, the flowers of war (2011) ---Zhang Yimou, a good film, because of the abundance of graphic violence, which reveals the incapacity of the maker to express the horror, more symbolically. Sometimes one will believe that the film was a stage play enacted at a war field.

The film was based on the novel THIRTEEN FLOWERS OF NANJING written by Geling Yan, which itself was the depiction of the events culminated during the occupation of Nanjing by the invading Japanese army in 1937, notoriously known as THE RAPE OF NANKING. The sorrows and sacrifices of the female population were really heart touching and especially the one in which the thirteen prostitutes decide to sacrifice their chastity- which they have not - and sometimes their life, for those innocent children.

But beyond it’s demerits I demand everyone of you to see the film. We are becoming a society of warmongers, only because of the one reason that I had cited earlier. We are far removed from the pains of the participants, not by the aid of philosophy, but through the aid of a cultivated hatred towards our neighbors.

And you are to know that this is the real war, where your brothers will be abolished and sisters will be raped. It is you who is to decide whether this is to happen in this world or not.
